Mentality of a Jackrabbit Heart of a Lion

As we all know Long Beach Poly is a factory when it comes to harboring college and pro level athletes. This particular one has taken the city with him everywhere he has gone. From Norcal to Philadelphia all the way to Washington D.C. Long Beach Poly alum and current Redskins wide-out Desean Jackson is 5'10, and 178lbs of pure speed, and courage, and a pinch of arrogance. When Jackson is on the field he is a constant threat, and he isn't afraid to let it be known! In his high school years Jackson made a lot of noise at Poly, in fact in 2004 Jackson was named Southern California Player of the Year, and he also played baseball where he was scouted by the Philadelphia Phillies, and ran track where he recorded a 10.5 in the 100! Phew! Fast is an understatement for this guy! In his Senior year Jackson caught a miraculous 60 passes for 1,075yds and 15 TD's! Talk about leaving it all on the field! He lead the Jackrabbits to a 13-1 record, and during the CIF Southern Section Championship game he was called upon to play defensive back in which he did so with ease pulling down 2 interceptions one of which he took back 68yds for a touchdown! The All-American WR took his talents to Cal Berkeley where he continued his stellar play! Freshmen year he recorded 601yds on 38 receptions crossing the 100yd mark 3 different times, scored a total of 7 touchdowns, and even took a put back 49yds to score in his first collegiate game against Sacremento State! In his Sophmore season Jackson did a lot of the same from his previous season, and then some taking in 1,060yds and 9 touchdowns on 59 reception! On top of his outstanding receiving season he also ran back 4 punts for touchdowns! Jackson even earned All-Pac 10 honors for both receiving, and punt return, and received the Randy Moss award for being the top return man in the nation! One of his many returns being a 95yd touchdown return against Arizona. Entering his Junior season he was a Heisman trophy candidate, and he had a great start to the season until some minor injuries stunted his progression, and stopped him from having the season he should have, but that didn't stop him from achieving his goal of being drafted to the NFL. Jackson was drafted as the 49th pick in the 2nd round of the 2008 draft to the Philadelphia Eagles! He had a tremendous 7 seasons with the Eagles stuffing the stat sheet, and even becoming the first player ever to return a game-winning punt in the final seconds. After what was said to be his best season to date the Eagles released him on ridiculous gang affiliation accusations. One of the franchises biggest mistakes to date. Jackson currently plays for the Redskins, and is looking to silence the haters, and prove his greatness as a WR. In his first season with the Redskin he suffered a shoulder injury against the Jaguars forcing him to leave the game, but that wouldn't stop him from wreaking havoc at Lincoln Financial Field. In his return against the Eagles Jackson put on a show recording a 81yd touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins, and mocking his former team in his celebration. His jersey from that night will go in the Pro Football Hall of Fame after being the 3rd player ever to record a 80yd touchdown pass for and against a team. Jackson's list of accolades, and achievements go on and on, and we don't think he's anywhere near finished. Keep up with the young lion-hearted Redskins wide out, and the rest of their season below, and congratulations to Mr. Jackson on his newborn baby boy! Another future Jackrabbit perhaps? who knows, but we do know that Desean Jackson is a product of Long Beach, and he will continue to put on for this city with his astounding play on the field!
