Zach & Robert Present the Hotspot App

Zach Palacios and Robert McCollister met back at Long Beach Poly where they were two of the three students on the football team in the PACE program and they have been best friends ever since. After high school Zach went to study Computer Science at Stanford University while Robert attended the University of Arizona to study Finance and Mathematics. After experiencing similar problems in college Zach and Robert decided to create Hotspot. Hotspot is an app with live rankings of local bars, clubs, and parties and it lets you easily see where your friends are going out for the night. After launching a month ago Hotspot has been spreading across several college campuses including, the University of Arizona, ASU, Notre Dame, and now CSULB. Every popular bar in Long Beach is on Hotspot and everyday, users can say where they're going out for the night and they can see what place will be the most popular. Hotspot is all about what's happening TONIGHT and all data starts fresh each morning. Hotspot is the easiest way to see what's popular, see who's going out, and invite your friends. As an avid bar hopper I am all for this app and am in the process of downloading it as I type this. In fact...You should be doing the same! Click the link below and make your Friday/Saturday nights less stressful!

Snorlax House of Blends

After a 3 month stint without a haircut I decided to take a trip to my barbershop Snorlax's House of Blends off of Gaviota over on the east side for a much needed taper. House of Blends has been around for 2 years now, and I've been going to them since day 1! From where they started to where they are now I must say this establishment has become more than just a barbershop it is a breeding ground for creativity. Each barber adds their own essence to the overall creative atmosphere of the shop. Run by head barber/owner Kyle McKenna (Snorlax) who brings his extensive knowledge of sneakers, and impressive collection of Lego figurines  and staff Deshaon Adams (Meloboomin), and Chris Spears (Epicbring their artistic abilities decorating their work space with their own art work. The overall atmosphere of the shop brings a little taste of Long Beach with a hint of the Bay Area. The heavy influence of art brings that Long Beach feel to House of Blends well that and the fact that there's a big signed picture of the staff and Vince Staples up on the wall upon entry. The Bay Area feel comes from the roots of the people on staff with them all being from the Bay Area their lingo, and music preference favors NorCal artists such as Richmond rapper Iamsu. This barbershop is more than a place to come for a fresh cut it's a place that welcomes all forms of creative expression. From freestyles, to live painting you never know what you'll witness when you enter Snorlax's House of Blends. This shop has seen its fair share of setbacks but they continue to bounce back, and continue to grow. Excited to see what is to come for the shop. Book an appointment, and check out one of the dopest barbershops in the LBC!

Bella Creatives Group

Soon to be the hub of public relations in Atlanta, Bella Creative Group is a creative consultant company created by a Spelman english major by the name of Rosalyn Billingsley also known as "Bella Rozzay." If you are a music artist well Bella is the girl you need to be in contact with! She uses her consulting company to manage artist, curate events, photography, and create social media marketing strategies for anyone in need of marketing help. Bella is currently working under the likes of Sarah Vivian, Don Cannon, and DJ Drama, and has set herself up to do BIG things down in the A! She currently manages an artist by the name of J Middlebrooks who has an EP on the way entitled "Jordan Year" dropping in May, which will be worth the listen because this dudes voice and flow are really dope! When Bella reached out to us we took immediate interest in her story because of course she's from the Long Beach area, but mainly because we share a similar vision. The Bella Creatives Group has nothing but our upmost support. Who knows maybe we could see an event collab in the future, but until then check out her website as well as her artist J Middlebrooks Soundcloud below! We recommend "Shoot My Shot" or his remix to Bryson Tillers "Dont"

4orce of Nature Open Mic Night

So the other night we attended the Force of Nature open mic night of their Moving Arts event series at The Brass Lamp, and before we get into last night festivities we'd like to congratulate Jaccara Queen, Michaela Reed, and the rest of the Force of Nature team on such a successful event. We are so proud of the growth in your brand, and impressed by the amount of talent you guys have access to. With that being said lets get into the first act of the night, who is also apart of the Force of Nature team. Ms. Early August hit the stage, and let it be known that she is not here for the BS, in fact she'll take that BS, make it look real nice, and serve it right back to you! Next up was Saniyah X of Tuff Crowd who hit the stage, and immediately hit the crowd with a barrage of video game references that she twisted into her own poetry. She definitely caught our attention with that, and kept it interesting with her second piece about the injustice of people of color. After her we had a young man by the name of Jalen Coleman who came up on stage to tell the audience that one specific woman in his life had missed out on something good. He even went as far as to call said woman to tell her "You ain't shit" after which he hung up. Now whether that was staged or not we don't know, but he definitely gets points for creativity! After him was a singer/poet by the name of Ventage who was easily our favorite act she performed her single "Fireworks in the Hood", a "Crazy in Love" cover, and a track off her recent Spoken Soul EP entitled "Hypocrite." Her stage presence is amazing the way she is able to connect with the crowd, and be so comfortable while she's up there made her an easy standout of the night. Pair that with the strength, and beauty of her voice, and it's a no-brainier why she was the favorite. The final act was the most entertaining being that it was pretty much a battle of the sexes put together by the members of Tuff Crowd. The women went first expressing how they felt about double standards, and they didn't hold any punches, but of course the men had their chance to fire back which they did without flinching. The bow on top of the present that was the final act was Tuff Crowd founder...., and ....... going back, and forth about love, and what it's like being with that one person you just can't live without. (Hey Sequoia! lol)  What better way to express these feelings than relating it to 90s film Love Jones? Well done.......Well done indeed! Overall this event was an amazing experience! The audience was into it, the vibe was dope, and each, and every performer KILLED it! Oh! Lets not forget about the DJ/host combo who kept the crowd interested, and having a good time when no one was on stage. We will definitely be in attendance at the next Force of Nature event you should be too! (Photos by Krista Perry)
